A. Pengertian Procedure Text

Procedure text adalah teks yang berisikan perintah atau instruksi tentang bagaimana cara, metode atau tips membuat, menggunakan sesuatu yang dapat berupa barang atau hal lainnya dengan tahapan-tahapan yang dilakukan chronologically (secara kronologis) atau berurutan.

Contoh bentuk umum dari procedure text ini ialah resep makanan yang mempunyai tujuan untuk mengajak orang melakukan hal yang serupa dengan memberi urutan memasak yang berurutan.

 

B. Tujuan Procedure Text

Pada umumnya, procedure text memiliki dua fungsi, yaitu:

1. Memberitahukan bagaimana sesuatu dapat dibuat atau digunakan dengan petunjuk yang berupa langka-langkah. Contonya seperti resep makanan.
2. Memberi petunjuk tentang cara-cara/ langkah-langkah/ metode untuk membuat, mengoperasikan atau melakukan sesuatu. Contonya ialah seperti prosedur cara menghidupkan pendingin ruangan.
3. Generic Structure Procedure Text

Sama halnya dengan teks lainnya, di bawah ini adala generic structure (kerangka teks) procedure text.

1. Goal atau aim, berisikan tujuan kegiatan atau hal yang akan dilakukan atau dibuat.
2. Materials atau tools, bagian ini menyebutkan bahan-bahan ataupun alat-alat yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat suatu barang/ melakukan suatu hal. Dalam procedure text, materialsbersifat opsional atau tidak selalu ada.
3. Steps, yaitu serangkaian langkah-langkah, metode, cara atau tips melakukan suatu hal tersebut secara berurutan.
4. Conclusion/ result, pada bagian ini berisikan hasil akhir dari apa yang telah dikerjakan sesuai dengan langkah- langkah yang dilakukan.

 

C. Ciri-Ciri Procedure Text

1. Menggunakan simple present tense (V1),dengan kata lain kata kerja yang digunakan adalah dalam bentuk V1. Contoh, make (membuat), cut (memotong).
2. Menggunakan imperative, yaitu kata kerja yang berbetuk perintah. Contoh, stir the soup (aduklah sop), fry the fish (gorenglah ikan).
3. Menggunakan action verb, yaitu kata kerja yang menyatakan adanya kegiatan fisik, seperti flip (balik), cover (tutup), uncover (buka).
4. Menggunakan order or sequence, yang merupakan kata penghubung yang menghubungkan langkah satu dengan lainnya. Contohnya, then (kemudian), next (kemudian), after (setelah), while (sementara itu), that (yaitu), hence (karenany), to begin with (untuk memulainya), last of all (terakhir), as soon as (secepatnya), in the end (pada akirnya), gradually (secara bertahap).
5. Menggunakan temporal conjunction, contohnya first, then, next, after that, last.

 

D. Contoh Procedure Text:

How to Make Tomato Soup

To make a bowl of tomato soup, you must prepare all ingredients below:

• 4 large tomatoes
• spices
• 1 small onion
• ½ teaspoon of salt
• 8 cups of water
• ¼ teaspoon of pepper small clove garlic
• ¼ teaspoon of butter

Here are the steps to make a bowl of tomato soup:

1. Cut tomatoes, onions, and garlic into small pieces.
2. Fry them in a pan with butter for five minutes.
3. Add water, spices, salt and pepper.
